Feats of engineering

So my life seems to be defined by packing or unpacking lately. This all began when we left our house in Cork to head up to Dublin for a few days before we all flew out. Just as a point of reference. . .I think Dublin is a little less than 200 miles away, but it takes almost 4 hours to get there. You really do get to drive the speed limit sometimes.
We had three huge suitcases, a duffel bag, two massive dog crates, two laptops, another carryon, some groceries for the house we stayed in, dog food, and some more crap I can't remember right now.
Before we started loading up, I was totally confident in Speedy's ability to hold it all.
Then we loaded Tex's crate. And there was room left for a mouse.
So we disassembled it and rethought our plan.
Here's how it ended up. . .
From the back. Behind the driver's side.
Yes, that's all the space our poor little pooches had. It was either suck it up or begin a new life as a self-walking Irish dog. They decided to squeeze in.

Here's the passenger-side view. About halfway through the drive, Tex decided to move. He wedged himself between the duffel bag and the roof of the car. I think it was because he saw a pillow nearby and wanted to take advantage of a little comfort. Mind you, Tex hates the car and hates to drive and pants the whole time and looks at you with this "I promise, Mom, I am trying not to throw up" look.
Of course, when trying to change lanes, this suicidal Jetta wagon zoomed up beside us and we had to do a quick lane change, thus hurtling Tex through the air back to his designated sitting space on the other side of the car.

We showed him.

I'm off to walk with the Hot Mamas and will then spend the rest of the day packing and trying not to lament being away from Ireland too much. More about that later!

You miss us already? You'll just have to come back then!

Dear sabrina. Oh my gosh! How on earth did you get all that stuff on the plane? And where did your preggy belly fit?!

Beccy: I miss Ireland more than anything. For a lot of reasons. Except for the beds. I much prefer my bed here.
LMM: Fortunately, the dogs flew a day ahead of us. The tricky part was WALKING all of our stuff from the car rental return over to the terminal. I thought there would be shuttles. Boy, was I wrong!!! And I was surprisingly comfy on the flights, belly and all!

Ahh you've just discovered the joys of walking around Dublin airport. I know my trips aren't long haul but It seems flights to Bristol always goes from the farthest gate.

That was one crammed car!!! I hope neither the dogfood or the airplane tickets weren't at the bottom of that pile!!

It amazes me how dogs can squeeze themselves into small spots. My huge black labs always manage to do that...get into spots that their big bodies shouldn't be able to fit into.

I was wondering where you put your belly.

I know what you mean about driving in Ireland - pick a reasonable time estimate and double it!

Okay, that's just funny. I've done a cross-country trip with my husband...and the car was jam-packed and I swore I would never do it again. But with dogs? That's just brave!

ChrisB: What I really wanted at Dublin airport was some food in the morning. Barely anything more substantial than a scone available!
Karmyn: I think I've heard that if they can fit their head through/into something, then they will squeeze their bodies as well.
Bethany: All credit goes to the DH
Pamela: The belly had plenty of space in the passenger seat!
MTG: I hear ya. Used to bother me, but now I miss it!
CC: We did a long road trip early on and I thought THAT was packed. This trip brought it all to a new level. Surprisingly, the dogs were really enjoyable!
