So I think I have had a serious "a-ha" moment with Baba Z and the sleep struggle.
It's all about poop.
(Me channeling Dwight from The Office)
FACT!: Zane slept pretty great until about 3 months old
FACT!: The decline in sleep stretch duration coincided with a bad bout of vomiting that brought on the struggle with constipation
FACT!: Even before the evil poo period of our lives, he would wake up all grunty and squirmy until he tooted and then would fall back asleep
FACT!: The one night recently he slept for long stretches came after a day of pooping
FACT!: The last couple of nights of awfully short sleeping periods were followed by a pooptastic morning
FACT!: Z seems to think he has to nurse in order to toot (and I guess to poop as well)
FACT!: He needs to be vertical to poop. Yay, gravity. So no poo while sleeping.
So. . .what can I gather from this epiphany of poo?
Somehow I need him to poop before he goes to bed instead of first thing in the morning. Sound simple? Yeah, right. I've spent weeks trying to coax poop out of the kid.
I know my pediatrician would just recommend giving him juice and water and avoiding constipating foods. And then she'll remind me that breastfed babies are never constipated.
And then I will restrain myself from backhanding her.
But. . .um. . .yay. I think I am happy to know (or think I know) he just has tummy trouble. At least this week. Next week it will change and I'll be clueless again.

It's all about the poo! So true, so true!
Oh, but breast fed babies are constipated if mommy doesn't drink enough fluids. Mine was fine until I went back to work, I didn't drink as much water, and he couldn't poop. A little baby lax, and more water for mom made for a happy baby.
The story goes that my grandfather used to say this to any ailment: "Have you had your grunt today?"
So yes - it is all about the poo
Ha!
"Pooptastic" is the most under-used word ever.
