Peace, love, and burning rubber

So this weekend was incredibly productive for the husband and I. In addition to throwing a rockin' baby shower for my midwife, Bernadette, making some mods on the Jeep, and visiting several parks with the kid, we actually WATCHED THREE WHOLE MOVIES.

Yay. This hasn't happened in a looooong time. (Into the Wild, Evan Almighty, and I am Legend)

So Into the Wild was a visual and aural feast and it really got me thinking about a lot of things. (Mostly, I empathized with how the mother must feel for her son to disappear (even if she was less than a perfect mother).) Anyway. . .one of the cool parts of the movie was two hippies in their "free-love"-decorated RV who befriend Chris AKA Alexander Supertramp for a while.

It's been so long since we both read the book that neither of us could remember if they were original to the text or part of "dramatic license". Anyway. . .we got to thinking about that RV and my DH posed the following question:

If you were to buy an RV/camper/decommissioned school bus/VW Vanagan, etc. to travel all over the country HOW WOULD YOU PANT IT?

Myself, I think I would ride in a silver Airstream with a mural of Texas wildflowers with all their names, etc. (and if they were poisonous or not--Hello, Supertramp, might have paid a little closer attention to the details!) I think my DH's dream RV would involve archangels, dragons, or maybe dolphins. (Okay, just kidding)

So, go on. Channel your inner hobo. What kind of vehicle would take you all over in search of absolute freedom? How would you decorate?

And, no, I don't expect you to do the artwork yourself. You get all the budget you want for that!

PS: My husband frequently tells me how when he was younger he wanted to live in a bus. I don't mean 5 or 6 years old younger, I mean, like THIRTEEN. Yeah, I married a tramp at heart!

Hey I love the overhaul of your site! I just noticed it; has it been changed long??

I love the book Into the Wild and wasn't sure about the movie - so we didn't see it.

As for my mode of transport, I think I'd go for the VW bus. I had a crush on a guy in high school who had one. He tie dyed a bunch of stuff - I wanted him to make me a tie dyed bra. Yeah, I' m that lame!

As far as decor, hmm . . . in high school I would have said tie dyed, but now I think it would be plastered with pictures of Bailey on the side. First bath, glow worm, WAIT, no - six frames on each side, one for each month. Then on the top, a portrait of our whole family. Yup, that's what I'd do!

Um, so yeah. I deleted my first comment, because it had some truly heinous spelling mistakes. It doesn't mean I caught them all, but I just couldn't live with those mistakes glaring at me! ARGH! Curse of the English teacher!!!!

When I was 13 I would have painted it red with black spots and 2 big black antenna on the top. Now? Zebra stripes or green plaid.

I had a friend in college who drove a little tiny car that was green plaid. I thought it was so cool. She really stood out.

My immediate thought was a bunch of wild 70s style flowers and peace symbols. Beause evidently, I envision traveling the country in a VW? Hmmmmm...
