Whew! So John made it back home safely. I was only stuck behind the slowest-moving farm equipment for 95% of the journey to and from Shannon, so I am very thankful for the ten minutes I actually got to drive the speed limit!!!So here is a picture of my shower of gifts from Kat. Two boxes of brownie mix would fetch a good sum on the black market here, but I'm not advertising!!! John and I did a "Mr. Burns" hand-wringing trying to decide when would be a special occasion to make some brownies. . ."excellent." (That was a Simpson's reference for those of you who don't watch--you can see at least 5 episodes a day here, so. . .)
Anyway. . . you can see the awesome card Kat made from the dogs. Don't they look handsome??? I've never seen a better pictures of Blanco! He looks like a "man" instead of a psychotic jumping bean like normal. . .Camp Seume has really reformed them. I miss those sweet boys, but it won't be too long until are out here terrorizing Ireland. I sure hope the country is ready for these two!!!!!
Today was a lot like Christmas when I tore into John's luggage. He should win an award for packing everything in his tiny suitcase and duffel bag. One of the ladies out here says that men must have an extra gene that allows them to pack efficiently--in suitcases and the dishwasher as well. I got an awesome scrapbook from my sister-in-law that I can't wait to start assembling. It will be nice to work on something creative other than knitting. (hands. . cramping. . can't. . . slip. . another. . .stitch. . .)
I finally got my copy of The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy that I ordered before we left. (It showed up at the house the day we flew out. . .) So my goal for the rest of the afternoon is to park my expanding butt on the couch and read for a while and probably take a nap. So far I have gained almost 8 pounds. It all came on fast in the last few weeks. . .tomorrow I meet with my general practitioner so I guess she'll tell me if I've put on too much weight!
We have an ultrasound Wednesday at almost 16 weeks. . .our chances for being able to tell Baby's gender are maybe. . .um, I don't know, but they're better than they were a few weeks ago! So leave a comment and cast your vote for the gender because there's a very slight chance that the guessing game will be over soon. Very unreal--I just won't know what to do with myself if we learn the sex so soon. There's way too much time to plan and accumulate cute pink or blue things!!! But weigh in on the poll. I think we have about as many "votes" for boy as for girl, but John and I are really thinking boy! Could 2007 be the year of the boy? So far everyone we know who is expecting this year has found out boy or good percentage chance of boy! Very exciting!!!
Anyway. . .I've been pretty blessed during the pregnancy not to have too many weird cravings. (As long as you consider muffins, cheese, or McDonald's food groups unto themselves. . .) but today at the store I saw some sour gummy worms that I HAD TO HAVE!!! I didn't notice that they were made with no artificial colors or flavors. How to you make that gummy stuff natural? After a thorough examination of the ingredients, it all checks out to be natural (dammit, I brought the bag over here to read the label and now I'm eating more. . ) These things are wholly unhealthy, but wow are they good!!!!
Finally, I have to give a big shout out to my sister in law. Kinsye. She's turning 21 again, so if you know her give her a call and send her lots of presents!!! (Everyone here "turns 21 again" instead of how we say they turned 29 again. Even into your 50s and stuff. . .just another way to think about it!)
Oh, and one more thing. . .
I think we need to expand our epiphany celebration in the United States. Sure, it's a great religious day (Tres Reyes--when the wise dudes show up) but over here it is NATIONAL LADIES NIGHT OUT!! Actually, they call it "Ladies' Little Christmas". (They used to call it "Little Ladies' Christmas" until there became some confusion as to whether or not ladies of size could celebrate as well.) I think this is something that could catch on in the States. Just something to consider for next year. . .
I'm off to the couch. Adios!
