To start, I have to remind you all that I am LOVING being pregnant and I don't want to complain AT ALL. But I experienced the most painful thing in a long time early Sunday morning that I just have to share.
As usual, I woke up for the zillionth time to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night but this time my left leg just wouldn't work. As I gained full consciousness I realized that I had a charley horse. And not just any charley horse--the charley horse from HECK!
My entire calf was locked in some sort of death grip on itself and all I could do was flail about on the bed gasping "charley horse. . .charley horse" until Dear Husband J (DHJ) woke up enough to share my pain. I think I whacked him several times with several out of control limbs as I fought to try to stretch out the calf. No luck. Just more pain.
Of course, it finally went away and I made it to the potty, but here I am on Tuesday (after stretching, heating, massaging, etc.) with still the most tense, most painful calf ever. It hurts worse than that time I tried to keep up with gazelle-like Kat running up the side of the Grand Canyon.
The worst, most painful part is that now I have to concede a little pride and admit that MY HUSBAND WAS RIGHT (about something). He insisted that a charley horse was a cramp in the quadriceps muscles. I insisted that it was calf only. A little visit to Wikipedia concedes that he's mostly right and I am just sort of right. Sigh,
Now for the "random":
- Another weird thing that I sort of expected with my pregnancy is an insanely fine-tuned sense of smell (I'm normally very sensitive to smell--call it my spidey sense if you will). All last week, everything smelled like cooked eggs (not a good smell for me--very nauseous). This week everything smells like a stinky trash can. (Yes, I've emptied and deodorized the trash can and sprayed the whole house with Febreeze but with no luck.) I still smell trash, and it's worst when I'm at the computer. Sigh.
- Here is a random shot of my boy Blanco with his favorite toy, "Bird". Actually, this is probably the fourth reincarnation of "Bird".
Despite being advertised as virtually indesctuctible (a Fat Cat toy), the boys rip these open in days. Yes, the pics is fuzzy--no PhotoShop here (too cheap to buy it). But I think it gives "Binky" a nice, majestic glow. He also looks clean, and that's half the battle.
- You know you are pregnant when. . .you do something that you would never do. I VOLUNTARILY put MAYONAISE on a sandwich yesterday. Just the sight of mayo (normally) makes me vomitous, so this was a total first. I have also been craving BLTs with mayo. There's no question that KidZilla is related to DHJ--I swear he can eat mayo out of the jar (so can my mom--I'm surrounded!!!)
- I just wanted to share the latest football picture of DHJ. This was from Sunday's practice. Their scrimmage in Dublin was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch. From the looks of things, their practice field is not doing any better. My favorite line from J after practice: "Do I have mud on my face?" Ummmmm. . ..

- I am currently working on a top-secret knitting mission that I cannot divulge until a later time. So you'll get pictures later. But I'm thrilled that at least I have picked up the needles again. It's been a while.
- Just wanted to say that those three months of Polish lessons I took DID NOT GO TO WASTE! J's PlayStation game for Special Ops (military stuff) takes place partially in Poland and my wicked Polish SKILLS have helped with proper pronunciation and partial translation of mission info. I got skills, people! Seriously!
- Finally, I do want you all to know that I AM FAMOUS! Stephanie over at MamaDrama totally made a reference to me on her post today--a limerick contest. Yippee! Feelin' some love! Actually, it's just geography, but I'll take it! If you're a poet and you do or don't know it. . ..drop by MamaDrama to see if you win the contest.
Hope you all are great. Looks like the Houston set are having blazing hot weather for Spring Break. Not that I'm jealous--it almost got up to 60 degrees F yesterday, so I can't complain! (If you were wondering, that's a scorcher here--at least in our experience).
More to come!

Hope your leg is feeling better soon.
I usually have a crap sense of smell but during pregnancy I could smell much more and it wasn't pleasant!
I had a horrible calf cramp about a month ago. Now I stretch before bed, I think it helps. Also I try to drink more water!
I have been having wicked heartburn, so not really nauseous, but I do get a watery wouth thing going on. YUCK.
I have always loved mayo so I can't relate there, and I haven't noticed any new flavors appealing to me. Oh well.
I did see that Stephanie mentioned you on the MamaDrama blog. Neat-o! I am thinking of maybe putting a poem in the hat. Not that creative sometimes though.
I am curious about your new knitting. I am still working on the hat. Suzanne had to redo half a row - I started knitting the wrong way - like backwards (darn circular knitting)!!!
Miss you!

Oh yes - I experienced all those things and MORE while pregnant.
One day I was outside getting my mail (and about 7 months pregnant) and my neighbor came up to me to chat. She was one of those "I LOVED being pregnant." I almost punched her....it is not a fun 9 months.
(I know you don't want to hear this - but yes, drink more water! I know you will have to get up more to pee, but it should help with the cramping)
Oh, Honey, I had all those same things while I was pregnant. J'DORE Texas BBQ, but I couldn't stand the smell of it at all while I was pregnant.
Hey, I'm really looking forward to the "top secret" knitting project! Hee!
Beccy: Thank you!
Aimee: Best of luck with the limerick. I get all screwy knitting in the round, too.
Karmyn: Will do on the water.
Stephanie: All I can say about the top secret project is that it is made with Irish wool (yarn) that is made just up the road from me. Actually, not wool, but those softer acrylic sheep I see on the side of the roads. . .
The spideysense of smell nearly killed me as well. I worked next to a dog groomers and I SWEAR I could smell the wet dogs through the wall. It was aweful.
Try eating a banana before you go to bed to avoid the charlie horses.
Those leg cramps are not fun. Mine usually happen when I stretch, then I hit the floor running. Someone told me to be sure to eat plenty of bananas...something about potassium. Just don't spread mayonaise on them...maybe peanut butter. Geesh, you had enough material here for a week's worth of posts.
I had the exact same issues when I was pregnant with Hailey. Victor was always shocked when (at 8 mos pregnant and big as a house) I would manage to leap straight up to stretch out a charley horse. I had them almost every night those last few months.
Oh and I kept mayo packets in my desk I craved them so much.
Dirty Birdy and Swampy: unfortunately, bananas have run afoul of my pregnant taste buds as well. Water and stretching seems to be working. Wet dog--ugh!
Jenny: So good to hear from you!!!!! Good idea about the mayo packets!!!
