Baby shower and I swear I have special powers. . .

Yesterday I headed up into Houston--this was only the third time I have driven in about two weeks, so making it there with the 6+ lanes of gobsh*tes driving along 610 was no small feat--for Aimee's baby shower. Aimee is my knitting-teaching-blogging-belly buddy who I worked with for like 6 years but only got to know really well over the last two because of the previously stupid departmental organization of disciplines throughout the building. Haha. If you worked with me and knew what I used to do you would get that but since you didn't, it's too boring to explain. Seriously. I'm just having a weird morning. Perhaps it's because it's MOTHERS' DAY and I have some SPECIAL SUPER POWERS. At least that makes sense after reading Violet's guest post on MamaDrama. (She is an awesome young adult--yay, teenagers!)
You see, this is how it all went down this morning (more on the baby shower in a sec, as I will probably gush about it for a while. . .)
I was reading through the Sunday paper while my DH was sleeping (too much yard work yesterday) and I got to the wedding announcements like I always do. I'm just fascinated by how that "other half" celebrates The Big Day. Anyway. . . I was skimming one chica's announcement--I really only check out where they went to school and if they, too, were Phi Beta Kappa instead of some fancy sorority (yeah, right). . .And I got to thinking. . .
"I wonder if Julia has gotten married?" (Julia was this awesome friend of mine from UT who was just super cool and quirky and lived in Wales for a while and is the absolutely best letter-writer ever. I have totally lost touch with her completely. Like the last time we got together was a week before my wedding--almost four years ago. We have not been in touch since. My fault: I'm not a good friend!)
And then I turned the page. . .
And Julia's announcement was there. Totally out of the blue like I had conjured it or something. Does this make me clairvoyant? Is it ESP? Whatever it is, it's totally freaky!
Oh yeah, and she got hitched at the Ritz-Carlton in MAUI. Very nice, chica. Very nice.
Whoah. So I am totally wondering what other super mom powers I will demonstrate today. . .
Back to our scheduled programming about Aimee's baby shower. It was AWESOME! I finally got to meet her family, and that was really cool! The pic above is of her mom and sister. I turned out looking frumpy in the pictures, to say the least. But I just posted them on Shutterfly if you are super-curious!
So we had awesome food including her mom's specialty I've been hearing about for ages. . .lumpien I think it is spelled. It's incredible, to say the least! It was just really nice to sit and chat with some mamas and mamas-to-be (Aimee, me, and her SIL are all expecting in the next couple of weeks). Really fun stuff!!! Aimee's SIL also made this super-cute diaper cake--I am so impressed by such creative people. I have none of this creativity, by the way.
Aimee is having a little girl, so all of the cute little dresses and pink stuff gifts were just adorable!!!!! Makes me wish we knew if KidZilla was a boy or a girl for a few moments. Then I realize we will find out really soon! so why not have the surprise!
So after stuffing my face for a few hours we all kind of broke up and headed our separate ways. I can't wait to get together with my bud later this week so we can dish some more.
Well, the hubby is up and we have to get our roll on, so see you on Fun Monday tomorrow!

It was so great to have y ou at the shower yesterday. My mom and sis kept raving about you! And Susan was so excited to have a face to put with the name that she reads about all the time in my blog. Thanks for the fun mirror, etc.

Can't wait to see you soon!

Sounds like a great day.

I was thinking, if you had been a bit more organised and given birth before 18th March you could have celebrated mother's day twice and got spoilt twice. Bad planning there Sabrina!

I think pregnant women can "see"

There is nothing more fun...or more dangerous...than a bunch of pregnant women together.
