Today started like most normal days. .. my DH hitting the "snooze" several times. . .Blanco hopping up into bed for a little cuddle (this is completely forbidden and he usually gets shoved out by my DH, but I guess we are feeling a little sweet on the dogs since their time in the spotlight as our "children" is very, very limited.). . .you know, standard waking up stuff. . .
One of the things KidZilla does is whenever anything comes into contact with my bump--an arm, another baby, a beer can, a plate of food, etc.--the kid bumps back. It greatly puzzles me as to what this means and if it is at all significant. I'm sure my mom would tell me that our child is already showing signs of great intelligence and extraordinary-ness, but who knows. . .maybe all babies do this. I'm a first-timer, so what do I know. . .
What I want to know is, what is KidZilla telling us.
Is is more like. . ."Oh, hello there, dear mother. I acknowledge your presence, and I am just pinging you back. PS: That beer is cold, please move it."
Or. . .is the Kid moving and grooving in there and wants to share the ocean of soul with any outsider who comes into contact.
Or is it just like a reflex. . .a response to a change in pressure, temperature, light, etc.
Or, is it something with a little more pizazz. . .like, "hey, man, this is my freakin' space and there's not so much left so STEP OFF and stop pushing on me"
This morning this image came to mind. KidZilla with a 'tude:

When Blanco curled up in bed next to my bump (which he finds very aggravating, because it has made him alter his cuddling positions, but Blanco's "personality" needs a post of its own so I won't even get started). . .anyway. . . when Blanco's back bumped up against the bump, the baby gave him a resounding thwack. Blanco, of course, turned around and gave my belly a very indignant look.
That was freakin' hilarious. Blanco with a 'tude as well.
Then KidZilla gave my DH a good "hi-ya" karate chop. So I guess there's little discrimination between who comes into contact.
I'm just the poor messenger through whom the Kid communicated his or her whims. . .
Anyway. . .that's what's going on in my head today. Needless to say, the DH and I can barely stay in our skins we are so excited about meeting this little one and really getting to see his or her personality. And learning if KidZilla is a he or she. Pretty exciting stuff.
Conversations in our house go something like this:
"Aren't you excited about the baby??????!!!!!!!!"
*five minutes later*
"Can you believe the baby is going to be here so soon???!!!"
*five minutes later*
"Isn't it so exciting about the baby??!!"
repeat ad nauseum
I may never truly know what all the pings are about from the Kid, but it's sure fun to speculate.
(By the way, I hit 200 posts yesterday, so yay for #2o1.)
PS: I'm not drinking beer, and I really don't use my bump to hold a plate--it's just not the right shape.

Hee hee, my first did that too. The second two just had hiccups (sp?) all of the time.
I love "I'm just pinging you back" That's too cute! Congratulations!
Baby pings...never heard of that before, but hey, it fits :).
My stomach used to keep me entertained for hours. Ain't nothin' like carrying another human around inside your body.
he/she is running out of room - and indignant when someone pushes into what little space is left
betcha this one has LONG LIMBS!!!!
Once when I was pregnant, Matthew decided to lay his head on my belly so he could be close to both his girls. Well, I was feeling mildy squished, but Bethany must have REALLY been feeling the lack of space, 'cause she kicked him in the face!!
Yep. That's my girl.
Reevesfarm: This one gets the hiccups a lot. Wonder if that will continue once he/she moves out. . .
Aimee: Whoah! Now I have two Aimees commenting!!! Good to meet ya!
Robin: Pretty crazy stuff, huh?
Pamela: This kid has serious attitude!!! Ready to spread out, I guess!
Stephanie: Baby kicks my DH when he hugs me. Keeping him in line. Letting him know who's boss!!!
