New Mommy on the Block

I am so in love with this little guy. . .

So I am attempting to blog today after a lengthy hiatus. . . I believe I have a good excuse, but you may have your own opinion.

My DH was asking me why I hadn't blogged and my excuses are too numerous to rattle off. . . trying to sleep while the baby is sleeping, not wanting to turn him over to some mechanical mothering device while he's awake so I can putter on the computer, too tired or brain-dead. And there I go rattling off those excuses. Huh. . .
So KidZilla is two weeks old plus today. We went for a check-up with our midwife, Bernadette, at the birthing center. We're both great. Gaining and losing weight appropriately. Very happy. Bernadette has been keeping busy--she's delivered three babies since Z and has 45 more expecting mommies on the books. Pretty impressive considering her birthing center has only been open since October. Guess I'm sort of rambling on. . .But I promise I'll spare you the percentiles and all that mumbo jumbo. Z is a BIG BOY. He's already gained a pound and grown half an inch. His pediatrician is amazed. Especially since his parents are such weirdo hippie freaks who had him in a birthing center instead of a hospital like we were "supposed" to. Sigh. Doctors. What can you do?
Here's the thing about blogging now: There are so many new topics (to me) that I know all of the mamas and papas out there would just nod their heads and go "Uh-huh" about so I don't want to bore people with old to them/new to me mommy stuff. But I'm also just this incredible bundle of emotions about my new son. This mommy business is the best. I absolutely love it. It's made me a better person already. Just ask my DH. And he manages to come home at my "happy hour" when all my hormones seem to go haywire and the waterworks start because of. . . oh, I don't know--whatever. But, seriously, he says I'm such a more expressive, emotionally sharing person now. Pretty good. Especially considering I was absolutely terrified of postpartum being really, really, really bad.
Of course, I haven't had a day on my own with the Z-Man. My DH or my mom have been with me every day to help out, so I have not had time to panic yet. And we're actually keeping the house clean and doing laundry and remembering to feed the dogs (most days). This is impressive beyond impressive as far as I'm concerned.
But all the things that are going through my head that I MUST.absolutely.write.about just keep multiplying. So I guess I had better get back into a blogging routine so I can get all of this out. I figure it will be good for KidZilla's baby book some day to have his crazy mom blogging about his explosive poop/gas/burps, etc. And all the other good stuff.
I am so far behind in acknowledging comments, that I'm not sure where to start. I can certainly say thank you to everyone for your support and well wishes and humor. I am going to start with actually maintaining my blog and then work on reading everyone else's as well. I miss you, Blog Friends. But I'll be seeing you soon!

Sabrina, it's great to hear how you are all getting on. I'm glad everything is working out well, you are very lucky to have your mum nearby to help you out. I wouldn't put too much pressure on yourself to either maintain your blog or visit other and I don't mind what you write about.

WOOOO-HOOOO!!

He's PERFECT!! Not that I expected anything less.

Blog about whatever you want. There is no truly "shared" experience, so it is all new and unique!! And those of us who have had similar experiences can comment and say stuff like, "That is SO true!!" or "Yeah!! Me, too!!" or "You are so lucky, 'cause for me _______ sucked!" Whatever. That's what's cool about blogging!

(Oh, and I'm still in Paris, and Blogger has put everything but your text and the comments in French with this browser I'm using. You would so love it if you could see it!)

That is such a beautiful picture. It's good you feel like blogging but like beccy says this is your time don't worry about commenting. We will just enjoy seeing all the pictures and hearing how how you are getting on from time to time.

You know me, I've always got advice. And here it is:
1) Forget about acknowledging past comments, we all know what the story is. Wipe the slate clean and start afresh.
2) Speaking of starting afresh, baby steps, just do small posts regularly, otherwise you'll feel swamped and then want to write a really big one to make up for missing some days.
3) Don't worry about writing about stuff that everyone already knows, most people have pets too, but they still love reading about puppies and kittens. Besides, you'll be giving them a chance to give their input (I'm the exception to this).

Love, love the picture! I am so excited that you are excited about your new title of Mommy... it is my favorite title so far! Rylee gave me the best b-day present ever this month by starting my day with "hi Mommy"... his first time to say mommy and mean ME! It still make me smile. ;-) There are not any repeat stories because all of yours are you and Zane and DH.... Take care and hugs until I can get over there myself!
