The Sleepytime Waltz

One step forward; two steps back.
Or something like that. . .
My little guy is doing the Sleepytime Boogie. Yep. We're crazy about naptime around here. But who knows how when where what or how long!!!!!
Saturday was a record day. Z took two, COUNT 'EM, TWO, TWO-HOUR naps. For those who might be mathematically challenged, that means I had FOUR hours to myself. I had no idea what to do. Four HOURS!!!
Sunday. Totally different story. Could hardly get him to take more than 30 minute catnaps until the afternoon, when he took a long snoozer.
Who knows what to expect??!!
I'm trying to "respect the nap" for a week or so to try to get things to level off. Otherwise I will never get to leave the house, go to church, go to yoga--ANYTHING!!! We're establishing routines, introducing a "lovey", creating sleep associations, yadda yadda yadda.
But let me talk about the "sleep routine" for a sec.
ALL the books tell you ya need a sleep routine. It. is. NECESSARY.
NONE of the books tell you what to do when your kid is NAP RESISTANT and figures out the routine and starts wailing like a banshee whenever any aspect of said routine is initiated.
My DH starts to sit down in the glider with Z to rock him, and he starts screaming his head off.
He stands up and the waterworks stop.
Sit down. Cry.
Stand up. Stop.
This is amusing only for a few seconds.
So good news: we've got a pretty darn smart kid
Bad news: the kid doesn't like to nap and now he KNOWS the SIGNS of naptime
Great news: this is really, really cute and will be a great story to tell when he is older (and goes to sleep on his own with no fuss!!!)

Stick with it. Remember it takes a while for the baby to really get with the routine. I hope things start to "level off" here pretty soon, but don't hold your breath. It took us a long time (still have slip ups now and then) to get a routine down. HUGS!
