So the fever has broken, some teeth have finally come in. . .all is somewhat returning to normal. (Or at least what passes for that in our house. . .)
I've been preoccupied with planning for Zane's first birthday. Can you believe that's coming up?
No, I'm not doing anything big like getting a pony. But there are some very important things that I want in order before the day arrives. Like pictures. And scrapbooks. And video. But that's probably not going to happen. We'll see.
I figured it was time to get around to posting about our vacation that we took earlier in the month. We visited Port Aransas, which is an island on the Texas Gulf Coast. We rented a beach house for a week and just chilled.
The beach was just yards away and while we did spend some time there, we did not spend the long hours I thought we would.
But what what I thinking? I envisoned us sitting together on a blanket as a family under an umbrella playing in the sand and building sand castles.
WHAT WAS I THINKING?
Zane was all drooly and had his fingers in his mouth the whole time, then would touch sand (hand now covered) and back into the mouth. Yuck.
Let me tell ya, folks. . .baby wipes DO NOT clean up sand. AT ALL. They just spread it around.
Terribly disappointing.
So were my pictures. . . I took a lot but this is the only one I liked. Period.
Also, it was incredibly windy and I think that has totally trashed my camera. Wind + sand + saltwater = gunky glass.
One of the cool things we did was visit the Padre Island National Seashore. This is a long, skinny island that runs along South TX. I thought it was really cool because there's only one way on and off the island (well, legally and across land, that is). It was lovely with nice park facilities and a great book store where we picked up some Southwest-theme board books for Zane. This one is his current favorite. No, really, he picks it up and sorta even seems interested!
In addition to spending lots of time enjoying some unusually cool May weather on our balcony, we got out to buy some shrimp fresh off the boat, enjoy the local parks, and take in the birding center. I know nothing about birds (Does it have two wings? Yes? Okay, it's a bird) but I'm starting to appreciate birding somewhat. "Port A" is a pretty happening birding location, and we ran into some really (really, really, really) serious birders. It was cool. We saw lots of things I don't know what they are but Roseate Spoonbills were some of the highlights. And a family of nutria. These little critters seem to pop up everywhere.
So that's all. Blah blah blah. Boring post about our vacation. Which was not boring. . .just relaxing. Aaaaah.
