So I've been back in Houston almost a week and have made some observations:
* I've lost some sort of immunity or desensitivity to mosquito bites since leaving the Gulf Coast. I've been inadvertently scratching myself until I bleed lately. These buggers are drawn to me now. I do not heart mosquitoes.
* Has there been a drastic increase in the skunk population in the Pearland/Santa Fe/Alvin /Texas City area? I've seen three roadkill skunks and the dogs barked at one really stinky one on the prowl near my parents' back yard the other night. Seriously, they are overrun with skunks here!
* Kankles: the condition resulting when you lose all definition between your calves and feet resulting in your lower legs resembling tree trunks. Things are not pretty, y'all. I was confident that a few days after the flight all this swelling would stop. Ummm. . . nope. Surely this has nothing to do with massive consumption of Mexican food. Nope. Nuh-uh. No sodium in that AT.ALL. Please restrain me from the chips and salsa. Please. Somebody order me a salad. . .
I am hoping against all hope that this will magically disappear when I return to Ireland where it's nice and cool. It's HOT here, seriously.
Oh, and I am pretty certain that I have popped out and now officially look like a pregnant women. Not waddling yet, but I have three more months to go. I was visiting with J and J back in our old house and J took some great pictures of us all with the babies. New bump pictures as well. You get to see the picture where I am describing the crooked line making it's way up my bump--aren't those lines supposed to be straight? What does my crooked one tell you about me? Then there's the one where I'm telling JLC about my now hairy belly. Eeeeew. Anyway. . .they are cute and on my Shutterfly site, so check them out. WARNING! Seriously cute babies feature in almost all pictures! (And, really, I could have done something with my hair--it's all over the place)
Getting all of the dog travel stuff sorted and it's making me a bit uptight. Say lots of puppy prayers that my pooches make it safe and sound on the flights, and all my paperwork is in order and the dogs are released to me with no problems up in Dublin. These boys are ready to be home with their daddy, and I am ready for a new chapter in my life that does not involve the Irish Department of Agriculture or Continental Pet Desk.
More to come. . .

I wish you a safe trip home.
I can offer you some advice and some support.
Advice. If you want to get rid of the kankles, try wearing pumps. (ha! it's an oldie but a goodie)
Support. I was reading Stephanie's post a few minutes ago and you don't look pregnant at all. In fact I thought I must have been confused about it, and was just about to go back and look through your blog when I remembered what it was called.
Get over it. Stop bitching about mosquitoes. You want to see mozzies? Come down here for a while! Last year we lost a dog to mosquitoes, it just picked him up and carried him away to eat later. Now that's a mozzie!
PS. Jenny does look tall.
It was great to see you today. The blanket is BEAUTIFUL! I am so impressed!
I am incredibly hairy as well - I have to get a wax soon!
You look so pregnant now. Kidzilla must have really been pushing out hard. I can't wait to see the photos from the shower.
XOXO

Hey - I just saw a picture of you at Mama Drama - and I say, you look pretty dang good.
and I knew it - mosquitoes like really pale people. See - you've probably turned quite white since living in Ireland. Mosquitoes can't get enough of me and I have no coloring at all.
I don't know what the deal is with the skunks but they've been everywhere in the last week. I assumed you brought them with you from Ireland.
PS. Kankles. I had those. Blech.
PPS. I'm not tall.
Beccy: thanks! I'm actually flying into Dublin with the dogs so I'll be in your neck of the woods! Maybe next time I'm up there we can try to meet up--now I'm hooked on meeting bloggers in real life!
WT: Thank you for both advice and support. The mosquitoes did try to airlift Blanco this morning, by the way, but he' too wiry to let them get away with it. . . and Jenny -is- tall
Stiggs: SO glad you like the blanket--it was a joy to make. Yay for the furry pregnant lady society!!!
Karmyn: So far I don't look any different from the neck up--but I have three more months! You're right about the pale thing. Scratch, scratch.
Jenny: I don't think we have skunks in Ireland, just badgers, but glad I'm not the only one noticing them. Oh, and you are both tall and thin. How did you get into the future MILF club?--you're already tiny.
