Music MeMe

Super Stephanie over at MamaDrama tagged me with this MeMe, and I'm going to attempt to do a "substantial" blog away from home, so bear with me. ..
Here are the "rules":
List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what they are. They must be songs you are presently enjoying. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.

1. There's the song by Guy Forsyth (formerly of Asylum Street Spankers--don't you love it!) that just gets me in the heart/gut every time I hear it: "Children of Jack" from the Can You Live Without album. It's from one of his older albums, but it's waltzy and guitar-y and reminds me of my old Austin then Houston music-y (Antones and Fabulous Satellite Lounge) days. This is not necessarily a typical Guy song, but if you have never heard (of) him, his website has some clips from the new album, including "Long, Long Time" which is a cool song. And then there's "Can You Live Without". Such an amazing song. . . And his shows were always cool--used to sometimes play "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" using a saw and a ??? now I can't remember. . .Hands down, this guy rocks. (couldn't find any music clips--sorry, I'm not that technological, but I promise the song is worth the $.99 ITunes download).

2. The Bud Light Real Men of Genius radio commercials. I miss these SO much! Almost as much as the Miller Light "Man Law" commercials with Burt Reynolds (sexy old dude!!!). Since I've been back there are at least three new ones on the radio. Surprise, surprise, we don't hear these in Ireland. We don't even have Bud Light there (not a tragedy at all. . .), but I'm hooked on these things. (Yes, I know this is not music, but rules are meant to be broken)

3. The Mongan method Hypnobirthing Affirmations and Rainbow Relaxation CD. It's my "homework" and I listen to it every day. Very relaxing.

4. "Streets of New York" by the Wolfe Tones. . .this is one of the songs this guy Kieran (LOVE that name, by the way, but not going to be an option for baby K--too fem for an American football player. . .) sang while playing a guitar with a string missing (why does that make it all more romantic?) over at our neighbors' St. Stephen's day party. A great old Irish song that brings tears to your eyes. In English, not Irish, so at least you can understand the words that practically bring you to tears. Anyway. ..you can take a listen and decide for yourself. . . yay, Amazon!

5. Any version of "Galway Girl." Personally, I really like the Steve Earle version from Transcendental Blues but that's only because I've just sort of, um, discovered Steve Earle. Just a cool dude. But I really like the Mundy version (he's Irish--sounds like a cool dude! Works in his parents' pub when not performing!) I found live on ITunes. You can take a listen here, just scroll dowm and it is the last track under Listen to Samples.

6. Cannonball by Damien Rice. I'm several years and an album behind this guy becoming super famous, but this is my favorite song of the incredibly quiet album "O". "9" is his new album but I haven't listened to it yet. Another pop-ish Irish dude, who apparently has had a song featured on Grey's Anatomy. That makes him quality, right?

7. Okay, here's the big one: The Johnny Cash Children's Album. Track 6, The Dinosaur Song is my absolute favorite. But if you want insight into my marriage, listen to Track 3: I Got a Boy and His Name is John. The interaction between Cash and June is, um, exactly like a daily conversation in our house where one chronically literal person struggles against all odds to keep the other on the straight and (brutally honest) narrow.
My DH and I are certainly not trying to be "cool" parents--we will get sucked into the Wiggles or Doodlebops or whatever the heck is popular now--but we will at least enjoy this one kid's album. Hopefully KidZilla likes it, too. And I feel cool listening to this in my mini-mini van while heading to pick up the carpool. . .it's begun already, hasn't it?

I'm tagging Aimee with this one. (Seems like everyone has done this already, so. . .Stiggs, it's your turn!). Sorry you can't visit her--she's got a private blog because she's a high school teacher and she deserves some shred of privacy, really!

Sabrina-
We are totally soulmates!!!!!! Guy Forsyth is one of my absolute favorite artists and the Can You Live Without album one of my prized cds. Children of Jack is my absolute favorite song! When do you go to shows at Antone's? I spent a lot of Sunday nights there with my friends from 1999-2001. And I love when he does Somewhere Over the Rainbow with the saw and bow! Mike and I have been to several of his shows at the Mucky Duck in Houston too. Wow! It's great to find someone who loves one of my favorite Texas artists as much as I do!

Jenny: My new personal favorite is the Boneless Buffalo Winds Inventor--Hope I'm not eating rear end. ..
Heather: Nuh-uh!!! So cool, soul sistuh! My Can You Live W/Out CD is signed by Guy--prized possession as well! Haven't been to Antones in a while but frequented the place maybe 1998-2003ish. We'll have to catch a set when we are back in Houston again!

Alrighty- here are my songs:
1. Boubacar by Bill Frisell - great for relaxing in the summer
2. Quelqu'un M'a Dit by Carla Bruni - lovely, soft, emotive
3. Kuribota by Waldemar Bastos - fun, latin flair
4. Canned Heat by Jamiroquai - that song from Napoleon Dynamite
5. Lay Lady Lay by Bob Dylan - you can't go wrong with a little Dylan
6. Like Cockatoos or Why Can't I Be You by The Cure - I am a total New Waver from the 80s
7. Anything James Taylor - Sweet Baby James, How Sweet It Is, Shed A Little Light. I just hope you already know most of his standards like Fire and Rain, You've Got A Friends, and Shower The People

Well that's my list. I'm sure I'll think of other songs once I've logged off. Oh well.
