Baby Updates and Milestones

So I haven't written to much about the kiddo lately. . .haven't posted much in general. Just not enough time, etc.etc. Here's a pic of Zane before we headed out to yoga last Thursday when he was 10 weeks old. What a big boy in his football outfit!!! Now I use the Bumbo sitter (it's made in South Africa, btw) on the kitchen countertop so he lets me have a free hand for a few minutes every day. So nice!!!
Zane's milestones:
  • He's cooing and talking up a storm. When he is really hollering, he makes this "ama" sound that I'm sure means: "Mother, why are you being so incredibly mean to me? Why can't you figure out what I want and give it to me???!!!"
  • He's been holding up his head for ages, but he really has a lot of head control now. Now that he's got that more under control, he's working on his legs. Now he likes to lock them out and "stand" on you all the time. Especially when he is being "complex".
  • Last Friday he started batting at things with his hands. He swatted at the toys that hang from his play mat Friday and Saturday, and he also tries to get the horses on the play bar on his swing.
  • This weekend he also started kicking at the toys on his bouncer that make sounds. Pretty fun.
  • He has started an intimate relationship with one of the cross-supports on his swing. I have no idea what he sees there, but he has complete conversations with this part of the swing. Sometimes they are pleasant conversations, and sometimes they end badly. Very badly. So badly that he must be removed from the swing instantly. I have not captured this on film yet, but I am going to try.
  • We learned a new trick today when we were visiting my friend, Isabel, and her two gorgeous, genius children. I put him on his changing pad on the floor and he can scoot himself around by pushing his feet into my hands. This leads to endless entertainment and bliss. I'm very excited to have another trick up my sleeve for baby entertaining.
On the "he's more complex" side of things. . .
  • He has no interest in rolling over right now. I'm not disappointed--this means he's my little baby that much longer.
  • He is interested in crawling, and this often turns tummy-time into a frustrating (for him) faceplant scoot on his nose and forehead. Just a few more months before I am chasing after him. Lord, help me!!!
  • I think I mentioned that Zane is so alert now that he doesn't want to miss out on anything. So he has been fighting his naps. Why would he want to sleep when there is so much going on? To make things even more complex, he often fights eating because nursing means he cannot look around. Trust me, I've tried to make it more interactive and I've tried to maneuver so he can look out and eat at the same time. It just doesn't work! He knows he's hungry, but he might miss something really, really exciting. Thus, a battle of wills ensues. I'm not keeping score, but I think he's winning.
  • Despite my efforts to shield his baby genius brain from the television, he has discovered it. I caught him looking at it today like he looks at the ceiling fan when it is not turning. It's the "I know that thing does something really, really exciting. Someone needs to turn it on. TURN IT ON CRAZY LADY!!!" look. Sigh. Oh well, once he realizes we don't have cable, he will probably give up on television all together. At least I hope so.

So that's about all there is. . .every day is a blessing and a new adventure! I was so impressed we took a trip up to see Isabel's family. It was such a nice visit and Z was an angel in the car both ways!!!

More to come. . .

He is soooo cute! He has accomplished so much already. Can you believe how far they have come (and how far we have come as well)! I can't wait to see you tomorrow - unless of course I am flodded in or something. The weatherman keeps talking like it's the storm of the century or something.

that is the darndest little chair I've ever seen. He looks like a little elf on a toadstool!!! (:

I'd sure like to blow on his neck,... and make his giggle.

I've never seen a Boomba Sitter before - how cool is that? He looks so big sitting there. (elf on a toadstool - giggle)

I remember when just a colored sock would entertain my kids - some times I miss those days. (then again, maybe not)

wow that is the cutest little chair zane looks so snug and secure and can see so much. He looks so much older than 10 weeks, it's such a lovely time for you both when they are learning all about their little world.

I love that chair, I wish they'd made them when mine were babies.

What an adorable kiddo! I have a 4 month old daugher, maybe I'll save her for your boy! I should have bought a bumbo seat when my son was a baby, but I was too cheap then.

Thanks for visiting my blog and for the kind words!
